This Webinar was delivered by Dr Debbie Lewis. Debbie is a specialist in special care dentistry in Dorset, where she developed and is still providing a special care dental service for adults with disabilities and additional needs. This includes a conscious sedation, general anaesthetic and domiciliary care service. Debbie is past president of the British Society of Gerodontology and the British Society of Disability and Oral Health, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Disability and Oral Health. The ISDH was delighted to have Dr Lewis present on our behalf.
Learning at your leisure:
In this Webinar we discussed dentistry for older people with a particular emphasis on when and how to bring dentistry out of the dental surgery and to the patient. This webinar was intended to be for the whole dental team. By the end of the session, attendees learned to:
- explore issues of access to oral care for people confined to home;
- consider the impact of frailty and chronic conditions on older people’s oral health;
- consider the safety of domiciliary care; and,
- look at equipment and materials for domiciliary dental care.
After the webinar, it is expected that participants were able to plan care for frail older patients and consider practical aspects of domiciliary care.
