History of the Association

The ISDH was formally established in 2002. Its mission is to empower people with special healthcare needs and those who support them to achieve oral health through advocacy, community and education. The officers and other committee members meet up to six times per year, to manage the business and running of the society and also to organise a summer conference on a multidisciplinary topic related to oral health and disability for the whole dental team.

Since its establishment as a national society, the ISDH has taken up its membership of the International Association of Disability and Oral Health (IADH), with a member sitting on the IADH Council.
