Dental Management of Patients Receiving Biologic Therapies

Earlier this year, we announced the first of our ISDH webinars exploring the key concepts around the dental management of patients who receive biological therapies.

Objectives 
1. To understand the mechanism of action and use of biologic therapies
2. To recognise the potential impact biologic therapies have on the oral cavity
3. To be able to assess and treat patients taking biologic therapies requiring dental care

Emily qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2007. She completed Vocational Training in Derbyshire and worked in Merseyside as a Senior House Officer. She then worked as a dentist at the Aboriginal Medical Service in Sydney, Australia. On returning to the UK, she undertook Specialist Training in Special Care Dentistry in the Thames Valley region and completed the MSc at King’s College London.
Emily currently works as a Consultant in the Department of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry at Guy’s Hospital, London and is the Dental Directorate Dental Oncology Lead. She treats a wide range of special care patients including the use of conscious sedation techniques. Her particular interest is in the dental management of patients undergoing oncology treatment including the use of bisphosphonates and biological therapies.
